Scrapping the repeal - Government keep Off-payroll working rules in place after all

Today the new Chancellor Jeremy Hunt announced that the planned repeal of the Off-Payroll working rules introduced in the public sector in 2017, and the private sector in 2021, will not now go ahead. Only four weeks ago, the then Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng had announced his intention to repeal the legislation from April 2023.

So the current rules, where medium and large businesses have the task of assessing the employment status of contractors hired by them, will remain in place. These regulations have been quite controversial, and criticised by some businesses as adding to complexity and "red tape" for little apparent gain.
